Established in 1954 as Harlem Irving Plaza, or “HIP,” one of Chicago’s first shopping centers, Harlem Irving Companies has since grown into a dynamic, community-focused development organization. A privately held company, Harlem Irving Companies is a leading developer of shopping centers, retail and commercial developments, and multi-use residential and institutional real estate, to name a few. One of its most recent projects is the HERE MN Student Housing development, located in the up-and-coming Prospect Park neighborhood of Minneapolis, which Big-D began construction on in January 2019.

HERE Minneapolis Student Apartments

The 125,000-square foot, $21.2 million project involved construction of a 6-story apartment building with 169 individual units, including 107 micro-studios; 36 one-bedroom apartments; and 26 two-bedroom apartments. The building features a myriad of resident amenities including a lobby, lounge, and fitness center, as well as secluded study rooms on each floor, an outdoor courtyard, and a sky deck on the sixth level that offers cityscape views of bustling downtown Minneapolis. The residence was also built with underground and outdoor parking with plenty of bike storage and features a large outdoor lawn area with lounge space for residents to take it easy right outside the buzzing Minneapolis metropolis.
With brick, stucco, wood composite, and metal panel coverings, the L-shaped building offers a modern look that fits right into its hip, trendy neighborhood. Located right across the Prospect Park LRT station and near bus lines and bike lanes, the residence is strategically situated for convenience and ease—especially for college students looking for independent living in a bustling new area just a few miles away from the University of Minnesota campus.
Big-D&#8217;s successful completion of this project contributes much to the high-quality, yet affordable housing needs of the area.

HERE Minneapolis Student Apartments

At Home Apartments started in 1992 with two friends purchasing a brownstone in St. Paul. Flash forward 20 years later and they currently own and manage over 4,500 units in the Midwest. Located in St. Paul, MN, their mission is to create and manage properties to be “clean, quiet, and well-maintained” for renters.
The Chase at Nine Mile Creek is a 4-story, 106 unit complex in Minnetonka, Minnesota. Constructed with a precast first floor followed by wood framed upper floors. The site includes 116 garage stalls and 54 exterior parking stalls, and roof top patios and a swimming pool.
