Project Description
Minnesota is home to more than 10,000 lakes and now, several residents in the community have panoramic views and easy access to two of those lakes. In 2015, Trammell Crow Company announced the acquisition of a site for the construction of a 164-unit, 6-story residential mixed-use building in the heart of the Lake Calhoun District in Minneapolis. The Foundry features contemporary studios and 1-to-3 bedroom apartments. A number of the apartments currently offer spectacular views of Lake Colhoun, Lake of the Isles, and the Minneapolis city skyline.
The apartment complex replaces an existing restaurant and associated surface parking lot. The residential area includes a hotel style sky lounge, conference room, a fitness center and yoga room, a grilling lounge, and an outdoor pool. There is also underground parking and a 5,400-square-foot restaurant connected to the building. The first level of underground parking was constructed using precast concrete, followed by six levels of panelized wood frame structure. The Foundry is registered with the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) with the goal of becoming LEED Certified for Homes Mid-Rise.
The Foundry is located about 2.5 miles from downtown Minneapolis and next to the Minneapolis Greenway, which provides walking and biking trails. During the warm months, Lake Calhoun is a mecca for outdoor enthusiasts. Hundreds of people can be found walking, running, biking, rollerblading and more around the 3-mile trail surrounding Calhoun, which includes multiple parks and beaches. The mixed-use building was designed so that it blends in with the upscale vibrancy of the area.
