Nine months to build 1.8 million square feet of state-of-the-art warehouse space? Big-D can do that. We did it for Prologis Logistics Services in a build-to-suit project for an incoming client, and the result is the Skylark Fulfillment Center.
The Skylark Fulfillment Center is 1,017,385 square feet of slab on grade (SOG) foundation surrounded by tilt-up concrete walls. The main floor houses a fully automated distribution center that uses an automated material handling system and extensive conveyors. It includes 17,000 square feet of cold storage.
Above the main floor, the center includes two mezzanines. The larger mezzanine is three stories and 760,000 square feet in size. It holds the robotic picking modules for the automated system. The smaller, one-story mezzanine is 238,000 square feet and houses the conveyer packing deck.
The building also has an 87,000-square-foot, two-story office block inside the main structure that houses closed and open offices, breakrooms, and training facilities. The entire warehouse is climate-controlled for worker comfort and for the safety of the products handled and stored there.
Not only was this project one of Big-D’s largest to date, it also had an incredibly accelerated schedule. With thorough planning and consistent coordination with Prologis and its client, we were able to successfully complete this massive and complex project in time without sacrificing quality or safety.
