…this new 120-bed Skilled Nursing Facility is based on a “culture change” concept, creating an atmosphere geared toward a residential environment in an attempt to steer clear of the more institutionalized nursing homes of the past.
Project Description
Veterans now have another option for long term care in Northern Utah. Big-D Construction teamed up with Architectural Nexus on this design-build facility, which is only the second of its kind in Utah. With an accelerated construction schedule, the dedication took place on Veterans Day. Designed to respect the residents’ dignity, privacy and special needs, this new 120-bed Skilled Nursing Facility is based on a “culture change” concept that creates an atmosphere geared toward a residential environment in an attempt to steer clear of the more institutionalized nursing homes of the past. The building was also designed as an energy efficient project in order to decrease the relative use of consumptive power and minimize long term energy life-cycle costs.
Connected by an enclosed walking path and comprised of five buildings called “neighborhoods”. Each neighborhood provides fully landscaped courtyards, a social area and an inviting dining experience with a covered exterior patio. Three neighborhoods each house 30 long-term care residents; a fourth has 30 beds designed specifically for special needs and dementia residents. The fifth building includes administration, physical and occupational therapy, barber shop, mail room, library, main kitchen, a multi-purpose room/chapel, and commercial shopping.
A unique feature greeting visitors is a 30-foot Veterans’ Tribute Tower, which was the first constructed west of the Mississippi. Dedicated on Veterans Day 2010, the tower is a place where people can gather to honor, thank and honor their local veterans.
