Project Description
The Lost Pines Art Center not only preserves the historic footprint of the community, but also emphasizes sustainability. The center, located on 1.25 acres in the community of Bastrop, Texas, includes a large art gallery, art studios, classrooms, an outdoor pavilion, and a small amphitheater.
Construction on the new facility entailed a delicate process. Crews had to integrate four silos, which were part of the century-old Powell Cotton Seed Mill, into the new art center, which also includes a reflective sculpture garden. Three of the silos were transformed into studios that showcase different forms of art. There will also be ongoing seminars and presentations on pottery, glass blowing, stone, metal and wood sculpture. The forth silo was transformed into an apartment for visiting artists.
The second floor has a balcony and an artists’ studio where works of art can be purchased.
Additional features of the art center include the following:
- Reception desk
- Small kitchen
- Conference rooms
- Art exhibit display space
Site work includes a pavilion, amphitheater, artificial stream, stone walls, and water storage cisterns. The art center also has a rain water collection system.
