“I have made two great decisions that I can be proud of in my life. The first was asking my wife to marry me and a close second was selecting Big-D Construction to be the design-build contractor on the Elkay Ogden Expansion Project.”

Founded 1920 in Chicago, Illinois, Elkay Manufacturing Company was the first mass producer of stainless steel sinks. Today, Elkay manufactures stainless steel sinks, water coolers, drinking fountains, and faucets for residential and commercial use. Elkay Manufacturing Company has also expanded its operations to include water filtration products, cabinetry, and decorative surfaces.
With operations in Ogden since 1971, Elkay outgrew its existing facility, and in 2005 the company relocated its operations to the Business Depot Ogden. Elkay and the Boyer Company turned to Big-D Construction to build a 106,513-square-foot facility that nearly tripled Elkay’s production line space. The new facility boasts state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment including twenty-five Fanco robots, five large draw presses, and numerous other innovative systems for packaging, dust collection, and environmental controls.
The facility includes two production lines to manufacture single- and double-basin sinks in various sizes that are shipped to points west of the Mississippi River. The building also serves as a regional distribution center for some of the company’s other products. The facility has over six miles of process piping and electrical conduit and includes 8,000 square feet of offices, conference rooms, and showroom space.
