The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has extended its services to help those in need with the construction of its new Deseret Industries and Bishops Storehouse in Gilbert, Arizona. The new Deseret Industries (DI) building is 48,138 square feet and the Bishops Storehouse building is 19,879 square feet. Both buildings are located on a 10-acre site outside the city of Phoenix.
Crews constructed both single-story buildings with structural steel and joist and deck framed roofs. The Bishop Storehouse includes a 1,700 square foot walk-in cooler/freezer and office space. Crews also had to install loading docks to both buildings. The project included minor demolition, asphalt and concrete paving, landscaping, and installation of an irrigation system.
The Bishops Storehouse provides food and other supplies for those in need. Food and supplies can also be distributed in the event of natural disaster or an economic crisis. Deseret Industries is a nonprofit vocational rehabilitation facility and a thrift store. Both buildings are owned and operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
