There is a demand for skilled workers in the State of Utah. The new Salt Lake Community College Westpointe Workforce Training & Education Center will hopefully attract more workers into vocational career paths.
Big-D Construction recently completed the new 121,000 square-foot facility that provides classroom and workspace for programs such as advanced composites, welding fabrication, solar energy, and commercial driver licensing. The Westpointe Workforce Training & Education Center also includes 34 labs and a diesel truck driving range. The Center officially opened to students in August 2018.
During a ribbon-joining ceremony in September, lawmakers noted the importance of the Training & Education Center to help train those in careers that are seeing unprecedented shortages during a time when Utah’s economy and population are growing. One lawmaker noted that wages are directly tied to the ability to “use our hands.” The ribbon-joining ceremony highlighted the efforts of the community to join together to make the Westpointe Workforce Training & Education Center a reality.
