Project Description

As CM/GC for the $30.6 million, 1,200,000-square-foot Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. Distribution Center in Grantsville, Utah, Big-D Construction completed all site work and building construction on time in 10 months due to a very aggressive construction schedule. The development of the 207-acre site included cuts and fills of approximately 2 million cubic yards of earthwork which was done in a two-month time frame. Due to the remoteness and size of the project, an on-site concrete batch plant was required to accommodate over 45,000 cubic yards of concrete required for the concrete paving and building concrete.

The Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. Distribution Center includes 15 miles of conveyor, 72 shipping lanes with the capacity for 118, 15,000 pallet locations in the order filling modules and over 65,000 pallet locations in the reserve racks. Upon startup in 2005, the center housed over 700 employees shipping product to 44 stores in Utah, Idaho, Montana and Nevada while processing and distributing between 250,000 – 550,000 cases per day.
