Project Description

The University Guest House and Conference Center at the University of Utah houses guest lecturers, visiting students and faculty, and many other guests of the university, and by 2010 it was operating at nearly 100 percent capacity for the majority of the year. The university called on Big-D Construction to expand the building to accommodate the ever-increasing number of visitors.

The addition and renovation consisted of building a new wing, renovating areas of the existing building, adding a new fire line, and paving additional parking areas. The four-story structure stands at 35,000 square feet and includes 51 new guestrooms on the upper three levels with a large meeting room on the lower level. The addition includes two new stair towers, a new elevator, and a new entrance for the new and existing meeting rooms. The renovation creates much needed space in the existing laundry room and guest entry. The project also included a 350-seat ballroom.

Big-D revamped the entrance along with the lobby and dining areas. Big-D crews also reconfigured the break room, administration spaces, and exercise facility to provide a better flow throughout the facility. The design and finishes blend into the existing facility and complement its surroundings.
