The changeover to the new cooling and electrical systems was accomplished over a weekend in order to accommodate an on-going production schedule.
Originally consisting of only a freezer and some dock space, Sun Street Food Corporation added nearly 92,000 square feet of expansion to their operation. The expansion included 32,000 square feet of production space, a 57,000-square-foot freezer, a larger shipping dock and an Ice Cream and Novelty Plant. New office areas and site work development of ten acres of land was also accomplished. The new freezer, the existing freezer and the coolers are powered by a 900-ton ammonia cooling system, installed by Big-D. Sun Street’s entire facility is powered by two 2,500 kVA transformers.

Stick, cup and sandwich ice cream products are manufactured in this facility, requiring the installation of numerous specialty items such as Spectra Glaze masonry walls, four 6,000-gallon stainless steel tanks, stainless steel wall and roof insulated panels and acid brick flooring. Sun Street has a self-contained lab in the production area and an overhead enclosed observation walkway for tours. The facility is designed to be maintenance-free and serves as its own distribution center for the Western United States.
