In 2012 Big-D faced a construction challenge: build a 1.6-million-square-foot fulfillment center that can accommodate a robotic picking system, and do it in ten months. So that’s what our crews accomplished.
The Patterson Fulfillment Center, completed in September 2013, has a 1,106,000-square-foot fulfillment center with a 450,000-square-foot mezzanine*. The exterior is made up of concrete tilt-up panels and the roof is a single-ply TPO membrane over an open web joist/metal deck roof structure. Big-D performed extensive and complex electrical work: the building has five electrical services totaling 15,000 AMPs. The Patterson Fulfillment Center is fully climate-controlled and includes high-efficiency lighting controlled by photocells and motion sensors.
Patterson, California, is a small city in central California that competes with neighboring cities for business development. Although our project spurred significant curiosity and speculation in the community, Big-D exercised utmost discretion per our client’s request.
