Project Description

In 2013 Big-D Construction began work on a new 202,850 square-foot milk processing plant for Mountain Dairy. It includes receiving, production plant, cold storage, support and utility spaces, sanitation and utility corridors, office space, and employee welfare areas, as well as associated site work.

The main plant is built for simplicity, utility, and durability. It uses a traditional post-and-beam steel structure and stands approximately 40 feet high at the ridge. The slab is six-inch reinforced concrete sloped for drainage. The exterior skin is 26-gauge insulated metal panels. The roof is TPO membrane over 4″ polyisocyanurate insulation on 1-1/2″ metal decking and steel joists. The interior finishes consist of cementitious urethane flooring, concrete curbs, stainless steel insulated metal panel walls, white siliconized polyester insulated metal panel ceiling, and galvanized columns.

The office and employee spaces are constructed of a traditional post-and-beam steel structure. The exterior skin is architectural metal panels backed up with gypsum sheathing on metal studs. Site work consists of imported fill, regrading, installing a storm drainage system, medium-duty asphalt parking lot for passenger cars, concrete pavement for truck areas, and a five-foot-wide concrete barrier around the building. Construction on the new processing plant for Mountain Dairy took 13 months to complete.
