Project Description

Big-D’s completion of Intermountain Healthcare’s 713,587-square-foot McKay-Dee Hospital brought the latest in advanced medical care and one of the largest emergency departments to the Ogden area.

Built on 62 acres of land, south of the old McKay-Dee Hospital, the 278-bed new facility includes 14 labor and delivery rooms, 17 operating rooms, a 33-bay emergency room, 16 ICU rooms and an advanced linear accelerator. McKay-Dee Hospital is the 3rd largest hospital in the Intermountain Healthcare system and the 4th largest hospital in Utah.

A five-story glass atrium with water wall and fireplace provides a comfortable and soothing environment for patients and their families. The hospital’s six-story, 607,363-square-foot tower and 106,224-square-foot clinic are set in park-like surroundings encircled by a one-mile walking path, which connects to a nearby nature preserve. Buildings have concrete foundations, and structural steel framing covered by a GFRC panel.

Located within the McKay-Dee Hospital is the Behavioral Health Department. The mission of McKay-Dee Behavioral Health is to provide consistently excellent care across the continuum of Behavioral Health services. This facility includes all inpatient treatment with an off-site location serving all outpatient needs.

Pediatric Inpatient Unit
The Pediatric Inpatient Unit’s purpose is to provide assessment of a child or adolescent’s mental health needs, stabilize their condition, provide education and information regarding diagnosis for family members, and provide referrals for the appropriate level of care after discharge.

Adult Inpatient Unit
The Adult inpatient Unit provides a safe and therapeutic environment for those in an acute crisis. Patients participate in individual, group and family therapy sessions, if necessary, pharmacological m tests and EKGs. An electronic locator system allows staff and equipment to be located immediately.
