Many people are moving to the Midwest because of its affordable cost of living, open spaces, and relaxed pace of life. However, the population growth is putting a strain on the housing market. There is a need for more affordable housing to accommodate new Midwest transplants. Big-D Construction’s Minneapolis office is currently working on several multifamily projects, including the completion of the Mahtomedi Flats project.
Mahtomedi Flats is a 36-unit apartment complex that was constructed on a 1.5-acre undeveloped parcel in the Wedgewood Village Center. The complex features 20 one-bedroom units and 16 two-bedroom units on the second and third floors. The first floor features a parking garage, a lobby, management offices, and open spaces for residents and guests. The façade of the apartment building features multiple materials and colors.
Big-D preserved several existing trees along the eastern edge of the property. New trees and landscaping was installed to help provide visual and noise buffering for neighboring properties. Construction on Mahtomedi Flats was completed in just 10 months.
