Project Description

The Kennecott Molybdenum Autoclave Process (MAP) project, the first of its kind in the world, is aimed at turning two obscure metals into valuable products. Kennecott estimates that the MAP project will produce 10 percent of the world’s molybdenum.

Big-D Construction was selected to complete the structural concrete footings, foundations, piers, and slabs for the ground-breaking Kennecott MAP facility. Several bid packages and phases made this project exclusive. The project’s eight buildings reach up to 10 stories high. Big-D’s scope on the site included earthwork and structural concrete, comprising the following elements:

  • 2,700 micropiles
  • 520 tons of rebar
  • More than 30,000 cubic yards of concrete

Big-D worked over 250,000 man-hours without a single lost time incident on the project with the focus of Zero Harm.
