Big-D has an opportunity for a Project Manager to join our team of construction professionals in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  This position is responsible for leading and directing a project team while maintaining the relationship with our client, consultants, partners, and subcontractors.  Oversee and manage all activities of the project including client and contract requirements, planning, schedule, and staffing to achieve quality and profit goal expectations of the Company.

 

Some key responsibilities include:

  • Exhibits strong commitment to customer service, both internal and external in fulfillment of Big-D’s stewardship/mission
  • Ensure field managers/staff are adhering to Big-D safety programs
  • Oversees and provides input regarding all issues that require risk management
  • Provide detailed contractual interpretations to team regarding prime contracts and subcontract agreements
  • Full understanding of design process and able to provide quality control review of plans/specifications
  • Takes initiative and is involved during the proposal phase including, but not limited to writing project management plans, creating proposal schedules, reviewing proposals
  • Ability to recognize project issues and timely acquire/coordinate company resources to support project as required
  • Understanding of cost estimating software and ability to accurately provide input and assistance regarding project costs

  • Provide prompt and accurate reporting of all required costs, changes, schedules and insurance data
  • Prepares for, attends, and represents the company in various meetings, including, but not limited to, pre-construction meetings, forecast meetings, and monthly job cost review meetings.
  • Works with the superintendent on scheduling and managing all project-related activities to deliver projects on-time, within budget, and constructed with superior quality and safety

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management or other related field
  • 7 to 10  years of related experience working on commercial construction projects
  • Experience managing projects in various construction delivery methods, specifically Pre-construction and Design Build
  • Technically competent with various software programs such as Microsoft Office, Prolog, Primavera 6 (P6), Timberline, Revit, and Bluebeam
  • Understanding of quantity takeoffs and estimating principles
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Proven client management skills

  • Coordinates and directs all subcontractor and vendors.
  • Works with the project team to establish goals and develop accountability.
  • Assumes responsibility for productivity of crafts, efficient use of materials and equipment, and contractual performance of the project.
  • Works closely with city officials in requesting and coordinating applicable inspections, including starting dialogue with officials from day one.
  • Verifies to ensure subcontractor completes the assigned scope of work.
  • Seeks to learn changes in the industry.

 

Requirements:

  • 7 to 10 years of related experience working on commercial construction projects.
  • Possess strong computer skills; proficient in MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook.
  • Ability to effectively lead and manage teams.
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with project team, customers, subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, and employees at all levels of the organization.’Extensive knowledge of established construction practices, procedures, and techniques as well as applicable local, state and federal building codes.
  • Ability to read and understand work orders, budget, change orders, safety standards, plans specifications, shop drawings, blue prints, submittals, manufacturer’s literature, contract documents and specifications, and CPM schedules.
  • Understand construction scheduling and sequencing, and cost control.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in the workplace.
  • Thorough and attentive to details; extremely organized and able to prioritize and multitask.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of abstract variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Some key responsibilities include:

  • Defines work scope solicit and select subcontractors
  • Proficient in quantity takeoffs
  • Proficient in organizing and assembling estimates
  • Successful in hard bidding projects, organize scopes of work
  • Proficient in conceptual estimating through the CM Process (Program, Schematic, DD, CD, etc) working with architects and engineers in design, successful in managing the construction budget.
  • Understands means and methods of construction. Know the different labor productivity rates of these items.
  • Understands CPM Scheduling and can translate into construction budget.
  • Clearly communicates with Subcontractors scheduling expectations.
  • Knows unit costs of different construction materials and labor
  • Knows overall SF cost of construction for different building types
  • Knows typical/average system costs for multiple building types, i.e. foundations, substructure, superstructure, exterior skin, roofing, interiors, etc.
  • Understands VE process and can lead a working session
  • Has developed important relationships with subcontractors that helps in winning work
  • Proficient in presenting estimates to an owner.
  • Participates in forecast meetings and tracks budget vs. actual costs through construction

Big-D has an opportunity for a Project Engineer to join our team of construction professionals based in our Gilbert, Arizona office. This position is responsible for supporting the project team in performing the technical aspects of managing the construction project by processing shop drawings, document control, change management, RFI’s, submittals, and other related activities.

Some key responsibilities include:

  • Receive and review submittals
  • Write and track RFI’s and process or assist in change orders
  • Prepare and maintain meeting agendas and minutes
  • Maintain construction drawings, provide marketing assistance as required
  • Assist Project Manager and Superintendent with subcontract and schedule administration.
  • General knowledge of LEED principles.
  • Keeps up-to-date on construction drawings and as-builts.
  • Prepare and manage procurement tracking logs to correlate with the project schedule and the demands of the project.
  • Keeps up-to-date on submittals, RFIs and responses, project changes & work progress, especially the items that could delay project or cause a loss, if installed incorrectly.
  • Maintains the electronic and hard copy project folders as requested by the project manager
  • Provides the required up-to-date copies of drawings and specifications to subcontractors.
  • Quality Assurance/Quality Control: Assists superintendent in verifying that all materials installed coincide with the approved submittals.
  • Ensures that the project site and construction activities are being constantly documented in writing and especially in photos.
  • Files hard or electronic inspection reports, test reports, etc.
  • Participates in the job closeout process.
  • Monitors and enforces, along with project team, Big-D safety and OSHA safety standards to maintain a safe working environment for all employees, and site visitors.
  • Assists the project manager in continually monitoring job cost reports by making certain that proper quantities are entered and cost projections are accurate; also accounts for all possible subcontractor cost impacts to the budget.
  • Understands the logic of a schedule and works with the project team, as requested, to ensure that the detailed construction CPM schedule is met.
  • Assists the project team to create, manage, and modify subcontract agreement and/or purchase order.
  • Coordinates with the project manager to track master subcontract agreements, and ensures that the office receives signed agreements back.
  • Performs SWPP and LEED inspections for the project, if assigned and certified.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or 3 to 5 years of related experience working on commercial construction projects; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • LEED AP preferred
